MIKTEK – False Dawn

Slow down, lay back and close your eyes. Let yourself be moved by the soft yet willful vibrations brought to you by the beautiful composition of Greek mastermind, MIKTEK. This is for those evenings spent sunken in a comfy couch or armchair, eardrums spellbound by the caress of musical magic.

You can listen to the melody for free, in good quality, on BandCamp, which is one of the best websites when it comes to supporting artists. You can also purchase the song (or album) from this same location. And in case you’re wondering, yes, I did purchase MIKTEK’s album :).

Autechre – 444

Get some good head gear, lie down, close your eyes and let this one take you places. This is the symbiosis between technology, mind and soul. Despite the relatively alert rhythm, the deep frequencies are so good at doing their brain-massage thing that this song never fails to send me into a state of inspired calm.

Delerium – The Seven Gates Of Thebes

Apparently the (more famous) Egyptian Thebes is known as “Thebes of the Hundred Gates” whereas the “Thebes of the Seven Gates” is located in Greece^. As far as I’m concerned, Delerium could have picked any ancient city as title for this song.

Despite the fact that this melody is a contemporary electronica ambient creation, the deep, thoroughly grounded bass, the mysterious choirs and the ghosty piano manage to conjure an aura of ancient knowledge. There are music warlocks at work here. Let yourself be carried away within their spell.

You can listen to the melody for free, in good quality, on BandCamp, which is one of the best websites when it comes to supporting artists. You can also purchase the song (or album) from this same location. And in case you’re wondering, yes, I did purchase Delerium’s album :).

Proem – Place Gun To Head

Oh, how I wish I could rename this song. But I can’t, not only because of my respect towards the artist, but because I prefer to tune in to whatever somber reality that the melody perhaps wishes to remind of. With such beautiful music, even dark images can be deprived of their negative energy and interpreted in an objective way, respectful towards the diversity of life and the many paths it can take.

Musically, what we have here is a minimal ambient track that makes excellent use of syncopation. It’s all part of the grand design which has the melody meander in a soothing flow.

Terry Oldfield – Pilgrimage

Combining deep, solemn male choirs with mystic percussion does indeed translate into a musical pilgrimage. This is a very relaxing song, best listened with eyes closed. The melody goes through several transformations, but keeps to an overall oriental feel.

Asura – El Hai

This is one intense piece of soul-blowing song. The ethereal mystic vocals, the hypnotic percussion and the melancholic strings are woven together into a noble flow that graces the beauty of existence upon the eardrum. It’s one of those melodies that I’d use to describe life without using words (as long as, like me, the listener doesn’t understand the lyrics). I’m curious if anybody can translate what she’s saying.

Conjure One – Center Of The Sun (Solarstone’s Chilled Out Remix)

Here’s a sweet, dreamy mental enhancer and remedy. It’s a song of remarkable gentleness, a creation that flows straight into the hungry soul of imagination. At times like this, I am grateful that the artist wasn’t shy to prolong the pleasure towards the 10 minutes mark. Life is more beautiful when accompanied by art such as this.

Do make sure to see the amazing video below. Words are simply not enough to express the beauty of this song-video combination. Even though the video was not made for this song and the song was not made for this video, an inspired fan put them together and the result is a staggering emotional roller-coaster. It’s one of the best song-video combinations I know.

The original melody is wonderful as well and I linked it below. But the (well-named!) chilled out remix of the track, combined with the right visual weaponry have brought tears to my eyes and not only once.

“When I close my eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done

I look into your eyes
And I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done”

Carbon Based Lifeforms – Abiogenesis

It starts slowly enough, with gentle breezy sounds and airy choirs. But do mistake this one for a post-party chill-out tune. Pumping up the volume too much based solely on the first minute might cause problems. That’s because before it reaches halfway through, the melody has built up enough energy to wake up the neighbors (or engage in some serious headphone stress-testing).

Through a beautifully executed buildup, this song becomes a well-rounded journey. The music soars to unexpected heights showcasing sounds with a strong cyclical character. I haven’t often seen a transition from ambient to psybient executed in such a harmonious and fruitful way.

Sussan Deyhim – Fire Within

Ritualistic beauty springs from within this passionate work of art. The driven, solemn singing is wrapped in an almost mystical arrangement of strings and air instruments. The percussion is something to behold. One invocation after the other, the magnificent composition keeps pacing in perfect harmony with the enthralling chants.

Eyes-closed listening with good hardware comes highly recommended.

Unfortunately, the song is not available on YouTube or any other no-subscription-required listening platform that I know of. However, you can listen to it for free on Deezer, which usually works just fine (I can use it simply by connecting my Google account).

Digitonal – Polestar

This song strikes a sublime balance between mood, diversity and calmness. There is just enough going on to make it a highly entertaining listen while in the same time keeping it a well within the threshold of something you can meditate on. This well-arranged combination of electronica and air instruments has brought to fruition a splendid mood-setter and journey song.
