Cold Play – Up & Up

Sweetness is on the menu for today. And since today is every day for every reader, sweetness is on the menu forever. Oh yes, this beautiful dreamy melody can definitely inspire us to do some thinking about the meaning of life.

I find myself lacking the words to properly describe this song. Technically, it’s a good rock piece, but really, it’s much more than that. Cold Play’s uplifting song comes along with a beautiful, dreamy, chilled-out video. Make sure you see it; I think it’ll deliver you what I can’t with words.

“Lying in the gutter, aiming for the moon
Trying to empty out the ocean with a spoon
Up and up, up and up

How come people suffer? How come people part?
How come people struggle? How come people
Break your heart? Break your heart?

Yes I wanna grow, yes I want to feel
Yes I wanna know, show me how to
Heal it up, heal it up

[…]

We’re gonna get it, get it together
I know, we’re gonna get it, get it together and float
We’re gonna get it, get it together and go
Up, and up, and up

[…]

Fixing up a car to drive in it again
When you’re in pain, when you think you’ve had enough
Don’t ever give up
Don’t ever give up

Believe in love”

Nigel Stanford – Cymatics

Amazing music can be found at the intersection between rock and electronica. Nigel Stanford is one of the most promising artists I’ve had the pleasure of listening recently. In its entirety, his “Solar Echoes” album is a fascinating journey, full of awesome moments and highly original sound.

This song in particular is quite a ride. Vibrant bass lines intertwine with airy textures while a powerful sense of purpose and direction permeates the acoustic construction. Towards the end, I have an irresistible urge to jump in the air. Play it and you’ll understand why.

Oh, and the video is absolutely gorgeous too. Make sure you see it!

I loved the album so much that after a single listen, I went right ahead and purchased it straight from the artist’s website, in lossless format, of course.

Au4 – In Three Seconds I’ll Be Gone

“Here’s a story about a girl I once loved
And I’d still love her if she was still around.”

Groovy, beautifully constructed, powerful and diverse, this melody showcases fascinating vocal synergy and witty lyrics. Prepare for an unleashing of samples, synthesizers and traditional rock instruments, all of it supporting his and her voice.

This song comes from one of the best rock albums I’ve heard in the past few years. There are some impressive lyrical gems scattered through Au4’s “And Down Goes The Sky”. I highly recommend listening to the entire album, especially since it’s freely available on the artist’s website!

“Oh when I came here I was lost and forgotten
Until then the sun rose in the dawn.
And I just meant to stay forever here running
But in three seconds I’ll be gone.

And I can’t remember my name. It’s forgotten,
And they all told me I was wrong.
‘Cause I just meant to stay forever here loving
But in three seconds I’ll be gone.”

You can listen to the song for free, in good quality, on BandCamp, which is one of the best websites when it comes to supporting artists.
