Anugama – Shamanic Journey

Embark on a peaceful exploration guided by calm percussion and air instruments. One such air instrument is the human voice. Mystic choirs flow along with the music, weaving a dreamy tapestry. The invocation for inner peace is the song’s only spoken word, so that the entire composition becomes a mantra of surprising clarity and purpose.

Unfortunately, the song is not available on YouTube or any other no-subscription-required listening platform that I know of. However, you can listen to it for free on Deezer, which usually works just fine (I can use it simply by connecting my Google account).

Şuie Paparude – Marajkee

A guitar passed through several filters joins forces with sweeping electronic textures, setting the mood before the monolithic beat arrives. Echoing and contrasting the tribal-industrial feel of the rhythm is an airy female voice sample, cleverly intertwined with the electronic arrangement. A beautiful mood-setter by one of the best electronica bands hailing from Romania.

Iamamiwhoami – Sever

This song starts off as a rather slow, melancholic piece. Her voice comes from far away, carried by ghostly choirs. Together with the careful composer, she’ll enthrall us so that we don’t even realize when we’re led towards the energetic end. And then she leaves again to… far away.

With its cryptic lyrics, I was a bit anxious about the day I have to review this song because it’s a bit… different. It comes with a pretty strange video too. Beautiful art should be featured and written about, so it’s not like I had a choice – I had to see what words I can get out of this song and I hope you enjoyed them.

“I won’t be fooled by its touch or emotional supply
the scent of the fair and heavy allure will dry
the cold and the bare grasped so delicate by one’s eye
is why we can’t ally and elope to wry

almost forgotten the way we used to live for play
to be accepted i must blend into convention’s way
and sing in universal ways”

The album can be purchased from the label’s website using the link below. And in case you’re wondering, yes, I did purchase it.

Devin Townsend – Fly

The saying goes that Devin Townsend once dreamt that he was flying. Then, he decided to write a song that would best represent his dream. This is the result.

It’s one of the most positively charged songs that I know. There is so much peace in this melody that one could calm the Middle East with it. Even so, there’s a lot going on inside these magical four minutes. Across the airy textures the listener is accompanied on their journey by all sorts of guitars and magical electronic fairies that spiral up and up and up. And up there, we’re met by his and her sweet voice. Close your eyes and let your mind soar.

Disclaimer 1: even though I made up the part about Devin’s dream, I did not lie about the feeling of flying. I did dream about flying, like so many others. At least as far as I’m concerned, yes, this song is a beautiful metaphor for the feeling of flying.

Disclaimer 2: regarding the “calming the Middle East” part, I seriously believe in therapy through art. Of course, the mind has to be prepared for it, but there are tools and shortcuts for that too. If only there would be a will… because as the saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Original post:

It’s time to fly! This song has been at my side through countless precious moments, helping me soar through the infinite landscapes of my mind. Devin Townsend’s usual style is progressive metal, but this gem I’m showing you now would better be categorized as “acoustic ambient”.

Pink Floyd – Marooned

Imagine a deserted beach. Imagine the blue waves, imagine a white sky, imagine a lonely guitar with emerald chords, imagine a ruby piano. Imagine seagulls gliding in the air, no effort at all, just waltzing in wind’s embrace. If there’s anything that can be said about this song is that it’s the spark that lights the fire of our imagination. Deep inside the mind, there’s a pyre made up of the thoughts that sometimes suffocate the purity of our soul. So let it burn, let unknowing innocence spread its wings, let go…

When I first posted this melody on the Weekly Song FaceBook page, it was during the sad events that saw Russia take over the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine. Then, I linked the following article, together with a plea for Russians to take notice at the tragedy unfolding in the other two break-away Ukrainian territories of Donetsk and Luhansk. What you can see below is how the Donetsk airport ended up looking like after the fighting (included is a photograph of how the airport looked before it was turned into a ruin).

Inofaith – Nocturne

This melody is a testament to the work of artists in general, and one artist in particular. The spoken lyrics underline the connection between art, love and the human drive to create universes. The relaxing and enjoyable music turns this into a highly-inspiring experience. And somehow, it always makes me move my body.

“Most of my ideas come out of complete silence.
My work, is a direct reflection of my personality.
Work to me, you know it’s, it’s who I am.
I think what’s hard, is, going against the current,
…trying to be something else… you know.

You have to love the process.
Be good at what you do.
There’s no substitution, for hard work
There’s not a better feeling in the world 🙂

You need to take that time for yourself, to realize why you’re here.
You’re here to create!

What happens to good artists is that,
when you create art, from the need to be loved…
…you do your best.

Silence is very important.
Most of my ideas come out of complete silence.
We all need to allow, the silence.
There’s so much noise.

It’s important for people to create their own worlds.
You have this world in which you live in.
But I think that we should be creating a sub-world to protect us.”
