Get some good head gear, lie down, close your eyes and let this one take you places. This is the symbiosis between technology, mind and soul. Despite the relatively alert rhythm, the deep frequencies are so good at doing their brain-massage thing that this song never fails to send me into a state of inspired calm.

The dance of airwaves inside our ears is one of the joys of being sensorial creatures. And this one is as sensual as songs can get. Wrap yourself in the passionate whispers of this mysterious duet. Let the suggestive guitars and synths drag you inside a den of audio pleasure.
It was very tempting to start with “I liked it, I liked it a lot”, but I think this is a better place for the predictable line.
“I liked it
I liked it a lot
Steep there, sooner than now
Right there, there on the ground
Did I say I liked it?
Yes you did
Did I say I liked it?
Yes you did
I like it
I liked it a lot
I like everything about you
I like everything we try
I like everything we did then
I liked it so good inside
So good inside
I liked it
No, I liked it a lot
I liked it
Oh way to go
Take this
You did it a lot
It’s better
Better than once
Did I say I liked it?
Did I say that now?
Did I say I loved it?
Did you understand?
Did you get it right now?
Did it make sense?
Did it feel good now?”
Unfortunately, I can’t find any way of purchasing the album digitally from any ethical shop (such as BandCamp).

Prepare to sink in, to take off, to slow down towards a climax speeding straight at your heart. The molten rock core vibe carries an angel’s voice. Wavy planes of sound spiral around the thumping bass pillar while playful happenings wander here and there. The storm of butterflies dances to the magical flutes. Shine your consciousness within this vibrating cathedral.
It’s one of those songs that made me contact the artist and thank him for creating such music; a short celebration of life, of thankfulness towards being able to perceive and appreciate art. And a winner of my Song of the Year prize!

This one will take you places. Just close your eyes, relax and let the brain massage begin. The song is a bit repetitive, but it’s one of those fortunate cases when that’s exactly the point. Some melodies let you sit still while they show you their many different landscapes. This song is more like a vehicle. Get on board and navigate your own imagination. The rhythm is steady and reliable, the sound is rich and stimulating. And don’t be surprised if you’re tempted to move your body either.
This song, as well as the album it comes from, came as a rather big surprise for me. I hadn’t listened to ATB in many years. For me, the name was synonymous to his famous single, “9PM (Till I Come)”^. I was quite impressed by the difference in style between 1999 and 2014. 15 years is a long time so evolution isn’t that much of a surprise, but I was really happy to see where the evolution of ATB led. There are a lot of great tracks on “Contact”. It’s an album I can highly recommend.

Brother, sister… just let it go. Shed those pains to the ground, like the butterfly that leaves its pupa. Spread your wings and embrace… the Universe. Let this angel’s voice guide you, let this beautiful rhythm move you. Connect with the joy that you are alive and the knowing that comes with it. You can dream and you can act.
“Sometimes when I look at what’s in front of me
It seems so overwhelming when it’s staring back at me
I know things move on and they grow
So why is it hard to stay mellow?
Just got to take it slow
So just breathe, breathe slow
Though it’s hard it’s hard to make it you know
I want you to breathe, breathe slow
Breathe, breathe
Sometimes, sometimes when you try to go inside and find what you’re all about
At times you feel things aren’t for real, there is doubt
Sometimes you feel you got to be left alone
Sometimes you feel you got to be taking it slow
So don’t you think another minute”

A diverse instrumental landscape will delight the listener throughout this meaningful lyrical journey. The song begins with an evocative arrangement that sets the stage for the uplifting message. Without Harland’s voice this would have been “just” a good fusion between acoustic and electronic music. Not only does she deliver, but the lyrics are lovely too.
“I’m not afraid of the distance
The shadow left behind
I’m not ashamed to look my fear in the eye
I will embrace the emotion
Pain will disappear
Holding your face in my hands
I will wipe away your tears
We will find a brighter sun
As our secrets come undone Now the boundaries of our love need a new heaven, a new earth
Our hearts in the hands of time”

Welcome to the dream. The dream takes place inside her mind while she floats inside ours, carried by blue fires and ephemeral sounds. Take her hand, dance, that’s why the rhythm is there. Fly, sway, let the music take you away.
Harmonies and echoes ease the melody’s flow into our imagination, where it shines and soothes. If there would be such a thing as a contemporary musical definition of dreamy, then I think this song should be among the prime examples. There’s nothing that screams “fantastic production values” louder than a solid Delerium song. Love at first listen.
“Blue fires burning again
In my head
All the things we left unsaid
In my head”

Singer Marie-Claire D’Ubaldo provides the dreamy landscape a song worthy of the title “Sleep” would need. But then again, this melody isn’t about sleeping at all. It’s about fire, it’s about movement, it’s about meanings hidden in plain sight, which her voice tempts the listener to find among the song’s witty lyrics. Accompanying us is the surreal yet body-moving music of Conjure One, brainchild of Rhys Fulber of Delerium fame. This is a beautifully written song in all ways a song can be so.
“Without sleep there are no dreams
Without dreams, we fall apart at the seams”

Every now and then, the perfect voice, lyrics and music meet. The way singer Beverley Staunton flows through the words is truly something to behold – powerful, ecstatic, driven. This song is as sensual and uplifting as they come. Of course, what is sensual for someone is a turnoff for someone else, but I believe we can agree that there’s a powerful voice and some beautiful lyrics here.
This melody comes from Balligomingo’s “Beneath the Surface” album, which I must highly recommend. The sound may be somewhat reminiscent of Delerium, but I feel that Balligomingo’s album is more… sensual – and not because of this song alone, check “Heat” out, where the artists collaborate with Kristy Thirsk, yet another amazing singer that created alongside Delerium.
“Follow me into deeper waters
Sinking fast into your eyes
Caught inside your trance
Feel my hunger for aching pleasure
Shelter me under your spell
Offer me your soul
[…]
Feel the fire burning under
Wander free into my world
Let me be your pearl”

A gentle beginning leads the listener to a menacing bass line. But bear with it and be lead to a moment when the song metamorphoses into one of the most beautiful harmonies I’ve ever heard. Kristy truly shines as a singer, following the dualistic construction of the melody to perfection. At times she feels hopeless and depressed, only to arise to ecstasy a minute later.
The lyrics are wonderful, the music is sublime. I am happy to have lived a life that has led me to appreciate Delerium’s art to its full potential. Songs like this remind me that often, happiness is measured in tears. May we all be forgiven and may we all forgive.
“Oh, when the lights are low
Tears from heaven will fall
On my heart, on my heart
I can feel them clean my soul
And take my sadness away
When the lights are low
I’m not alone, I’m not alone, no”

The original FaceBook review was: This profoundly emotional melody features one of the most beautiful voices known to me, Kristy Thirsk. Collaborating with her was a brilliant decision by Delerium, as she adds a dimension of haunting beauty to the song. This piece is also very powerful on the lyrical side, making it one of my all-time favorites. Enjoy!
